If you have been residing in Canada for many years without any status and have become established in Canada, you can submit a permanent residence application on humanitarian and compassionate grounds. You will need to demonstrate, among many other factors, that you have contributed to Canadian society and that you will suffer hardship should you be forced to return to your home country.
A pending permanent residence application on humanitarian and compassionate grounds will not automatically stop your removal from Canada. You might be allowed to remain in Canada until finalization of the application only if certain time line requirements are met.
